Integrated advantages of multi gas detectors
2025-06-04

Many industrial environments do not only have a single gas risk, but may face the threat of multiple gases at the same time. For example, in confined space operations, it is necessary to monitor both oxygen content (prevent hypoxia), toxic gases such as hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide, and even pay attention to the accumulation of combustible gases such as methane. In this complex scenario, multi-gas detectors show their unique integration advantages.

The core of the multi-gas detector is that it integrates multiple different types of sensors inside, which can simultaneously detect multiple target gases present in the environment. Common sensor technologies include:

Electrochemical sensor: It is mainly used to detect oxygen and a variety of toxic gases, such as CO, H2S, SO2, NH3, Cl2, etc., with good selectivity and sensitivity. Catalytic combustion sensor: It is mainly used to detect combustible gases, such as methane, propane, hydrogen, etc., with fast response speed and relatively low cost. Infrared sensors (IR): Commonly used to detect carbon dioxide and specific hydrocarbons (such as methane), it has the advantages of long life, not easy to poison, and low maintenance. Photoionization detector (PID): It has high sensitivity to volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and is widely used in environmental monitoring and occupational health fields.

Compared to installing a fixed detector separately for each gas, the use of a fixed multi-gas detector not only saves installation space and wiring costs, but also simplifies system management and maintenance. Operators only need to pay attention to an integrated display interface and alarm system to fully grasp the various gas concentration conditions of the monitoring points.
